Athens, Elite, New Breed, Strother & Obsession

I always see posts on AT that say all these little bow companies are basically selling the same bow. They aren't really doing anything cutting edge or innovative. I used to always scoff and say they just don't know. I was looking at bows this morning and realized maybe they are right. Other then cutouts and minor differences to cams, the bows are all similar. 33.5, 7inch, 340 or so. It's basically the design KS came up with after Bowtech. Even the Insanity looks similar if you made it a 7in bh.

Don't get me wrong, I love it, but why buy an Elite Answer when I've got the Vengeance? I'm excited about the Obsession bows but why are they significantly better? If all you can come up with is tuning, finish and warranty I get all that. We are basically talking about the high/mid range sedan style of bows. The Accord, Camry, Focus and Regal. They aren't corvettes, like the MR 5 and Omen. They aren't BMW 750's like the Safari or Matrix. Am I wrong?

Shoot them and you will see that while the specs are often almost identical, the feel, and fit of the bows are what sets them apart. Also you are comparing one model in their lineups...I mean why not put Mathews in there too with the M7? I learned a long time ago that comparing specs meant nothing to me with a bow...shooting is the difference.

I know I picked one model of each company. That just seems the most common/flagship bow for each company. I'd add Evo 7 to the pile as well. I'm in a bit of a quandry as I'm trying to find a bow I like better then my Vengeance. Maybe there isn't one out there? I've shot everything in the last two years. Well not Karbon level everything, but nine bows or so.

I just had a sunday morning epiphany and thought I'd share. Maybe everyone else was way ahead of me on the "yeah we figured that out" scale.

Have a friend with a bow shop in Grenada, Ms. He use to sell both Mathews, along with Hoyt and Bowtech. He no longer sells Mathews, but customers would come in, and automatically ask for the "hot" mathews at the the time. He tried to get them to shoot them all, but most were already brain washed b4 they came in. He did however tell me that some of those he convinced to try a Bowtech or Hoyt, ending up buying one of those instead of the mathews they "thought" they wanted. Shoot 'em, shot 'em all!!

There is a lot that makes up a bow besides the final specs. Smoothness, valley, backwall the whole feel can be different from one to the next.

They may look the same, but when you shoot them there can be big differences from one to the next. People feel and hear different things when shooting a bow. Like 2 me my cpxl has no hump, but other people say there's does. It comes down to personal prefrence and feel. If they were all the same we all would shoot the same bow.

If I had listened to all the interweb b.s I wouldn't own my heli M and absolutely love it's flexible riser, ata that's too short to be accurate and just an all around crappy bow. Tuning has a lot to do with how a bow performs and not all bows right out of the box are tuned properly. Just shoot what you can and remember because you shoot one bow and it feels good the one you buy could shoot completely different. No two bows are alike.

I've shot the new Mathews, Hoyts, Bowtechs, PSE's, Bears, etc. and I still like the feel of my K&K's better.

I will post my opinion on this tonight when I am on a computer.....short answer......some are similar....some are worlds apart. Like gekko said....specs are specs are specs and have very little to do with the differences in models and manufacturers. Are some a regurgitation of the same technology? Yes.....but not all.

I haven't shot them all but many...I feel the same way. So Obsession my be my next one. If it feels the same or better than my Vindi with the ability to tune easily/decent resale then I may just pick one up next year.

I shot the Pure and Answer...disappointed. Good bows for sure but still not better (too me). Waiting to shoot something with the Badger cams though...

I wonder what Dennis plans to do to build upon the current design if anything. Who was Obsession designer for the SS?

I agree with out west and FCF. I have tested out most of the new bows coming out and nothing seemed THAT much better to get me to switch. All personal preferences but for me my bow feels better to hold, draw and shoot compared to any of the 2012's I have shot. The Obsession LF sounds intriguing to me if there is a little speed gain while maintaining that same feel on the draw and shot. Also the ease of tuning will help resale as long as if Obsession can keep on producing bows that can contend with the top of the line bows.

I, like a few prior to me, LOVE my Vindicator. I am not a huge fan of the nock travel/tunability issue...but I shoot Rage heads so it is not absolutely a deal breaker. I was a lover of all things Mathews and still like the Monster bows....but not at all like the Vindicator.

Now a couple weeks ago I received a New Breed Eclipse from Breathn. I will say I like the grip and cutouts on the Vindicator better. You take away those two things and the Eclipse is a FAR superior bow to the Vindicator. The Eclipse grip and I have come to terms and are now comfortable with each other, I shoot the bow just as well or better than I do the Vindicator but..... The Eclipse will stack broadheads and FP's all day long without much work to get there, the draw is 10 times easier to pull ( does not load up nearly as fast ) and it is just as dead in the hand at the shot. Breathn calles them the "freaks" of the bow world because of how easy they tune.

I have always said the same thing about those brands also. I have owned two Elites and sold both. I was hoping to be going to Breathn's son and find out about Obsession and New Breed. There isn't any dealers close to me at all. I can't make out to Johns so. I don't know, looks like the same bows to me. Sorry to say, but there isn't anyway to find out. I'm not laying down 800 without atleast holding it.

The New Obsessions are the same as your Vengeance, except for the cams. Thats why I just cant see myself buy one. I love this bow, but to buy the same exact bow for $8+ just for different cams is crazy. IMO , Im sure the CS is top notch, but lets face it, when you bought your Vengeance you thought there would have been better CS as well.

I love to route for the little guy, but I think I will stick to the porsche next time.

I agree with all statements above. As well this year is purely down to preferance as there are soooo many great bows out there. For me i have had great success with the small company and am glad i shoot an Obsession. They wow me all the time. My shooting has improved from the tunability, stability ans huge confidence boost. Im glad i took a chance.
