Question for everyone, I am thinking about a hand gun and my two choices are either a S & W M & P or a Springfield XD . Anyone have either and why do you like it. I will not be using as a c.c just as home defence and some critter fun. Let here what you think is the better gun.

Not sure why, I have never shot one, but I know a partner of mine in SF said they were not that "Hot".....

If it was me, I would look at H&K USP, Ruger P345, or Glock...they are all tough in my book....but the XD is a good one too

when it comes to guns, you cannot go wrong with German engineering. Sig and H&K are my personal favorites with guns.
Glocks are good, but they have no soul....

youll have to hold the gun. some double stack 45s are too wide for me.

:?: very well spoken! I have had a Sig 228 for the past 15 years and have yet to have a problem. Remember one thing, you mentioned you would be using this for home defense. Make sue you get something reliable and ready.....that you are comfortable with.

Thanks for the replies everyone its very helpful. I will look into the Sigs. I do really like the H&Ks but they are more than I can spend. Lots of change for such a little piece of iron..

I have owned an XD-9 and an XD-45 both are great guns and I liked both. I have only limited experiance with the S&W M&P and then only in the 9mm version. I liked the XD better.


My only current .45 is a Kimber 1911.

Boys I'm "old school", in my opinion there's nothing that can beat a good single action auto,(Colt, Springfield, Para-Ordnance, Kimber, etc.) in .45 ACP. If you're dead set on a double action, I'd try to find a Sig P220. :-x

I gotta got with a MADE IN THE USA! RUGER!!! I have had my P90 since they came out and for the money can't be beat, The 90 has a safety / decocker so good for the home and ready with a flick of the thumb.

I am partial to Rugers myself, My father and I had a Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, RedHawk and Super Red Hawk along with a P89.......

I may get another in the future.

you can't beat the XD pistols. Great price and well built. Sorry guys but if your going to pay money for a Sig, spend the extra buck and get a real 1911.

My Dad has the S&W M&P in .40 caliber and it is a nice shooting gun. He has put quite a few rounds thru it and it hasnt missed a beat.

I was going to get a M&P , XD45 , or a Glock21SF. I went with the Glock , it just felt better, plus parts are easier to find and cheaper.

i have to say ruger is pretty good. one of my friends have one and it has performed flawlessly.
