I try to keep the "ROOKIE" questions to a minimum but I have become concerned that maybe I'm not shooting the proper arrow for my 334. I'm using this bow primarily for deer hunting.
When I bought this bow the tech at the Pro Shop reccomended I use Epic 400 with 100 gr tips. At that time the bow was set at 65 lbs. My draw length is 29" and the shaft itself is supposed to be 28 1/2". Since then I have maxed the draw weight out to what is supposed to be 70 lbs max but I understand that it could go a couple of lbs over.
What initiated my overall concern is that while my 334 is quiet . .it's not as quiet as it was when I purchased it. I know I don't have any loose parts on it and my string leeches seem to be in good repair.
I asked the tech at the shop where I purchased the bow "why am I using this particular arrow" and he kinda just blew me off as he had a customer potentialy making a bow purchase . . .so I don't really hold it against him. But my concern now is that I am under spined and I may have or will do some harm to the bow. So until I get this questionsettled in my mind I won't be shooting for awhile. Any feedback much appreciated.

If you go by Easton's shaft selector on their website they recomend a 340 shaft for 67-72# with a 100 grain tip and 28" or 29" arrow length. Hopes this helps.

I've had to re-sight the bow since I've upped the draw weight and had a devil of a time re sighting. My groups are now about the same but the bow is a lot more unforgiving (best way I can describe it).
I will purchase the 340"s and see how they do. I really appreciate the input fellas.
I'm kinda ticked that the tech put me on these arrows and then would'nt go into why with me. Well . . .maybe it's a "speed thing" with him. I have a lot to learn . .sure hope I hav'nt compromised the integrity of my bow. :-D My best calculation is that I've run about 1800 arrows thru is at this spine since I bought the bow.

generally a heavier arrow should quiet your bow. However at the cost of speed. To me life is a balance.

id buy three arrows spined for what easton/goldtip/ce say. Shoot them with your old arrows. Compare groups or paper holes. Listen and choose for yourself. THere is no excuse for a archery shop to blow off a customer. SO hopefully you have another shop close by where you can go to buy some arrows.

Easton has a program you can download that will help chose shafts. I ran your setup assuming a 72lb pull, 29 inch arrow 100grn head. The spine listed pretty much .340 (what RJ1 said) but youll notice even with different spines the arrows weighed different. I noticed off hand arrows alone could vary 80 grains on the carbon shafts.

Carbon Express and Goldtip have charts too, but ive always used easton/beman arrows.

IMO id lean towards a heavier arrow, which should quiet your setup and give a bit more Kinetic Energy. The easton program will show shafts for hunting, target, youth and beman selections. It will also help you figure FOC and Kinetic energy if youre really into tuning your arrows for optimal needs.

yes, it is ashame your bow shop dude set you up like that.
The good thing is we do have a classified section and you may be able to sell them or trade em off for some arrows that would be better for your setup.

Well from what I've deduced looking at the chart as to Easton arrows I've come up with the EPIC 340, EXCEL 340, POWERFLIGHT 340, and the AXIS 340. Figuring the gpi with the 100g tip, that'll give me a 370.75 with all of them except the POWERFLIGHT, which will give me a 365.05. Right now with the 400's I'm at about 348 with the tip. Does this sound like what I need and will it be suitable for hunting? It does'nt sound like a lot of difference to me . . .should I go with something a little heavier? 8)

If you are shooting 70# you want to be at least 350 gpi. I am around 430 with my Axis FMJ's which I use to hunt with, quiets the bow alittle bit and gives you more KE. I think you will find your bow will shoot better with the arrows around 365, and they will still be fine if you back your weight down.

Thanks for all of the replies. I do really appreciate all of the advice. I went today and bought some Epic 340's. This time I also tried the Blazer vanes. First thing I did when I got home was to give them a try. Man, this bow is quieter than it's ever been . . . .absolutly no noise I could detect other than the thump when the arrow hit the target. Also my groups were way tighter . . . .I should have maybe waited on the Blazers because I don't know what to contribute the tighter groups to exactly. At any rate, I'm sincerely grateful for the advise. . . . .Uh . . .I won't really call the owner of the shop close to home a "tech" anymore, but he is really a great guy and owned up to the fact that he should have put me on the 340's to start with . . .and gave me a deal on some purchases. I'll continue to support his store but will find someone else to do any tech services I may require in the future. As a matter of fact I will be taking a little trip soon to visit another that has been reccomended to me by several folks.
Thanks again!!!

Looking into this, you did good by going to the 340.

The first image shows where you were with the 400's....YIKES!!!!

The second is with the 340's and the Blazer vanes....PERFECT!!!
