Anyone ever saw an Outfitter that offered Catch and Release Hunting?

Green Hunting
"Green Hunting is a newer concept in our industry. This is really “catch & release” hunting where you will hunt with a tranquilizer dart gun provided by us. This is a tremendous “bow hunting-like” adventure offering the thrill of allowing your game to live and return to the herd. Costs are approximately half of the normal harvest fees. This is so much like a traditional hunt because you receive the hunt memories with kill photos, as well as a cape and horns/antlers can be obtained for your taxidermy mount."

Catch and release with kill shot photos, horns, and cape? Sounds like bull!!!! to me, about like the tournament hunting they were going to have in high fenced areas with dart guns. :-( :-(

This must be the place in OK I read about last week. It sounded kinda wierd to me when I read it too. If I'm gonna take the time to sit in a stand and wait on a critter I want to kill it and grill it.

The WHO that first offered the tournament hunting with darts is gone now. Not totally gone but the hunts are not being offered. After a great amount of slamming they are just promoting good hunting ethics. They are trying to get back into the good graces of manufactures and hunters. None of them will survive the ridicule that will come with it. The animal is still at a high risk of death even tranqulized.

yep, in OK......was thinking of trying to harvest something before i got to Iraq.....after reading this I am skeptic of this outfitter.
He did email me and explain that they have over 3000 acres and it is by no means a canned hunt facility. I just dont want to hunt something that has been stalked, drugged, and let loose again. 8)

This is a subject that can go one for ages. But the truth is has anyone ever wanted to go to africa and hunt. Not most blue collar people can afford to hunt the animals and pay the expenses to have the trophy hauled back to the states. Sure people want to eat what they kill, most people that trophy hunt these animals dont eat them anyway. Who has ever ate a wilda beast? This kinda of hunting is for people that want to trophy hunt and not pay the expenses and dont care for the meat. I agree its not for everone. But i can assure you that this is not a canned hunt by no means. There is over 3000 acre to hunt and the land is very rugged. I have seen it personally. This can go on for ever. This is just a option for poeple to hunt an animal that they could normally not afford. But as far as hunting on this ranch with a bow, i would challenge any one to a spot and stalk. Rough terrain and many acres.

What is the effect of these animals being drugged, photgraphed and then let loose for it to happen all over again?

I am not slamming the owners, like I said, I have been in contact with them thru email....
I am just wondering what these animals are like after going thru the tramatic effects of "Green Hunting".

Just want to add to previous reply. The green hunting applys to your big exotics not animals like hogs and rams. So if you want to hunt hogs or rams, they have not been stalked, drugged, and release for you to hunt. :(

There is always a chance of an animal getting hurt when doing this method. But not as great as hunting it with a bow and making a bad shot or high powered rifle, Because these methods does not give the animal the chance of living. But green hunting does

I saw this practice done on one of the outdoor TV shows last month in Africa. The were hunting rino's with a darted arrow. This was in conjunction with a African wildlife agency, the let indiviuals shoot the rino's with there bow and after the the animals were sudued they took blood samples and many other test and measurments to check the contition of the local herd.

I could kind of go along with this as long as they HAD TO do other tests or tagging......but not just for a trophy hunting and then do it all over again to the same animal for the next hunter.

I saw Tom Miranda do what you describe last year or the year before on TV.

Now this seems a whole lot different than the set up in the openeing post. This would be ok to me because they were going to do it one way or the other, they just decided to let hunters make the shot and made some $$$ along the way.
