i started shooting feathers again this year. how many of you guys shoot them and why?

i like a lot. I think that they are more forgiving out of a W/B.

I don't use any type of powder or spray to waterproof them as the W/B rest jerks the water out of them when they are shot.

they seam to wear just on the outer edge for about the first 20 shots and then they are good to go. have not refletched any since August when i bought a dozen ics 400.

blood dries them hard as a rock. hehe but thats a OK.
I retire my arrows after they have killed a deer and keep them in a box. i write with a sharpie what they killed and the date. its fun to look back at what arrow i shot in what year. BRU

No i have not. now i will say that you will have a faster arrow out of the bow in the first 20 yards. about the same form 25 to 35 and slower at 40 to 50 compared to vanes due to weight difference and drag. you allready know this i am sure.

blazers are about as light as feathers without the drag.

Feathers I think for me shoot a lot better than blazers with fixed blade broadheads probally because of my shooting form or set up. don't know for sure but all i did was change from blazers to feathers just for fun and my groups went from allright to fantastic.

don't get me wrong i shot blazers for 3 years on a W/B and loved them, they are a very durable and accurate vane. I think that when a feather goes through the W/B with a great tune on a bow you get a lot back in forgivness and shootability.
its kinda hard to explain but i like it.

I think blazers and a fall away rest is probally a great way to go. I just ain't going to hunt with a fall way. I like to keep it as simple as possible for hunting. just me.

I am always looking for something better and love the feathers. BRU

3 inch will work if you shoot the corect spine and a broadhead that is 1 inch or smaller.

I am going to try 3 inch feathers on some axis 500's on 63 lbs with my 334. I think a 3 inch feather would be real close to a blazer.

has anybody ever thought about the fact that feathers might give you a little bit of a advantage if you did shoot through limbs that you did not see. feathers will lay down and plasstic fletch would deflect would it not. only thing is this might not happen because of the broadhead being first!!!

Thanks. I have heard that feathers don't do as good of a job in stabilizing the arrow on, say, 40 to 45 yard shots. Have you found this to be true or not? I'm just curious.
The opposite is true... stabilization is directly correlated to the drag coefficient.

Pro's:
Faster out of the gate
Better stability = more forgiving

Con's:
Rain becomes your enemy (unless you use waterproofing)
Lose speed faster than vanes beyond 40 yards because of extra drag (there is a trade off for that stability)

I shot some axis 500's with 3 inch feathers today on my latest 334. just got this bow a few days ago and today was the maiden voyage. it started pouring the rain after about 20 shots but the early indications are good. same POI at 20 yards with magnus stingers. 29 inch draw at 63 lbs. 27 1/2 arrow.
