I posted this on AT as well....I am searching for some answers...I just today finished fletching some CX Maxima 350's...I was getting ready to put in the inserts so I could shoot them tomorrow and when I picked one of the arrows up I rolled the fletching in my hand and they came off :-D I looked at the rest of them and with the slighest tug the others would come off as well :-D

What I was wondering is should I have used a wrap with them or a different glue? I am using Bohning platinum glue with 4" duravanes.

Thanks in advance for any help or answers.

I have heard non stop praise about Bohning Platinum glue but it didn't work for me too well either with or without wraps....even after cleaning the shafts with alcohol :???:
I am using Loktite super gel from Walmart and shooting thru cardboard and they still are on no probs.

I wipe the shafts clean to make sure they are free of any oils and use Goat Tuff glue. Never have had a problem with the C/E Maxima's and the fletching (Duravane Predator) coming off.

Here it is:

I have found it at hardware stores and Walmart, usually around $3 a bottle and I can do 3-4 dozen arrows (vanes and inserts) with one bottle easily. Look in the hardware/ adhesive sections.

i use the loctite superglue too. I buy mine @ lowes. I use blazers and wraps on my maxima 350s. Not one problem. I like the Gel. I tried the longer open time loctite and found it too ran too much.

I clean with alcohol, dry and everything sticks.

Wipe your shafts down with alcohol first. I had issues with Bohning, so I switched to Goat Tuff. I have fletched 3 dozen of them and haven’t lost a fletching yet. I am shooting the Maxim 250 with Blazers through a WB. Goat Tuff may not be the cheapest, but you’ll never worry about your fletchings!

I have tried a number of different methods but have settled on the following ...

1. I now use wraps on every arrow. They seem to create a better bond with the fletch and they really make for an easy job when refletching. You can get some really cool patterns which make for some sharpe looking arrows.
2. Wipe down the arrow with "denatured" alcohol before applying the wrap. That takes all the oils off the arrow that may have gotten on from handling. I apply the wrap by setting it on a mouse pad first. Carefully, align the wrap on the arrow so that its as straight as possible and roll the arrow on the mouse pad.
3. Get fletches ready. I only touch the fletch by the vane and never try to touch the base with my hands. The oil in your hands can effect the bond.
4. I use Goat Tuff glue. I have tried a number of different glues and that one seems to work best for me.
5. I place the vane in the clamp and apply a thin bead to the base of the vane.
6. Attach vane to arrow. If there is any excess glue use a Q-tip or the corner of paper towel and dab excess glue away.

This is a quick summary but should set you on the right path. Since adding these steps to my process, i have had little issues with fletches falling off.

Good luck
:(
