We are in the middle of South Dakota about 45 minutes south of Aberdeen. Five hours from Minneapolis. I think it's too late this year to set something up, we don't have our bows yet and the season is over on Monday. But next year should work out great. Who's good an managing something like this? We can put them in charge. I can provide a place to stay and hundreds and hundreds of deer.

I'll post some pictures later. This last weekend, we got nine deer with five guys.
Well, I'm not volunteering to organize.....But Aberdeen, huh? That's only about a 3 hour drive for me.....

Okay, I guess i'll host the ******* version at my place in Tennessee then for all the poor folks like me that can't drive 2000 miles or won't cross the Mason Dixon Line to shoot does. :D Y'all know I'd love to come its just too far for real.
Just more frosty cold beers and more gas in the 4 weeler ta get thar no biggin

I have guys that have come up from Tennessee every year for the last ten. It's a long drive, but well worth it. Maybe pheasant hunters are just a little more hard core then bow hunters down in Tennessee...

Now I know that this is a discussion involving Misfits and "SHORT BUS" riders but it's still a looooong stretch even for us to go from Kevin's old bows to deer hunts in SD & Tennessee! I'm not saying that it's not OK 'cause I want to be there BUT it is still just quite a stretch!!!!!!!

Id like to see what bow Kevin has used to set these records.... something like 195 pound draw weight! Any pics or details to this?

The bow I set the World Speed Record with was only 180# draw weight, shoot 588 fps. Have shot over 640 fps since then but not officially at a sanctioned event, the NAA is the sanctioning body, same organization that holds the Flight competitions.

The bow I set the World Regular FLight Record with was 195#, shooting a 14" arrow with razor blade fletchings, shot a distance of 1320 yards, 1 ft, and 3". You have to be online, they deduct distance for every degree, minute and second you are offline. They actually had to take the centerline pole down to measure a couple of my arrows, I was just a few seconds off of center.

That bow was smoking fast, about 640+ fps. Shot the bow 70 times, I didn't shoot   the last 2 arrows of my last end, I had the record, it was 120 degrees and I was getting tired. Didn't want to risk hurting myself just for fun!!!

Bare bow weighed over 10#, the riser was made of steel, the aluminum would break at over 185#.

Shoot thru riser with swivel grip on a independent arm, rest that actually drop down and the arrow comes up through the rest as you draw the bow. Built a bow with no cable rod in 1992, that was how I built the bow I set the flight record with, you don't want limb twist or side torque at 195#. :p :p

Things that are introduced as new ideas in the last 8years to present have been made for Flight bows since the 80's.

Thanks so much for the explanation, Kevin. Do you have any plans to go after a new record officially? If you did, would you use some of the old stuff or would you use some new creation? Thanks again for taking time out of your hectic/crazy schedule to play with us.

Yes I do plan on breaking both of my World Records, and setting another one in Broadhead flight.

I will build new bows, I won't even have to shoot but around 150-160 to shatter my records. I have made significant advancements in the cams and limb designs since I set these records.

Maybe all bow company owners, designers should build a bow and compete against me. We could all put up a certain amount of money and winner takes the cash!!!! :?: :?: :?:

I'm up for the challenge, wonder if they are :???: :???:

I thought you already had enough cash for your island?!? All kidding aside....wouldn't it be nice for those other companies to have the president or even a "designer" take some time out of their schedules to talk to us, the "LITTLE" people. Those of us misfit "SHORT BUS" riders are so lucky to have ours. The "others" have to be jealous!!!!

I'm trying to buy the neighboring Island also!!!! LOL

I don't think of myself as any different than any of you. Well maybe a little more sane than SOME of you!!! :D :D

Maybe Big Country or Terry could represent Martin, Rodney could shoot for Athens, Brian could shoot for SA, they do have a "light weight" class, Craig or John Hernandez could shoot for BowTech, Randy Walk could shoot for Hoyt, Randy used to shoot Flight, Matt McPherson :D :D could represent his companies, and Pete could shoot for his company, PSE.

That would be one interesting group of ego's to be around :?: :?:

I'll bet it would take one huge area, say maybe "BIG SKY COUNTRY" to fit all those ego's in. Yea, I mean the whole state and if Kevin is really up against them, I'll bet it would take the WHOLE state of Montana to shoot across for Kevin's bow!

I actually don't know what weight I'm pulling during the contest, I weigh the bows and then make marks on the limbs. I write the weight down for each mark before hand. I then have some one else who knows what the marks mean crank the bow to those marks. They then cover up the side of the limb so I can't see it. This way I don't have to worry about my mind playing tricks on me, I just say it's a weight I can pull, so I do.

I check the weight after I'm done shooting the whole contest. Then I think "Now wonder it was getting hard to pull toward the end of 3 days of shooting. It does start to get heavy after your tired and the heat in the places these contest are held is normally around 100-120, and you are in the sun all day.

When I do leg presses I do the same thing, I try to not think about how many plates are on the machine, your mind can make you weak in situations like that. I try to keep my mind from being able to make up some BS about how heavy it is.

Kevin, Did you ever have to draw the 195lb bow and let it down without shooting it. Seems like it would pull some limbs off on the let down and not the bows
I actually screwed up my shoulder around 1990 by letting down a 180# bow, I had no choice but to let down, haven't let down a heavy bows since and NEVER will do that again.

I had to start back into archery like a little baby by drawing a 30# bow to rehab my shoulder, I somehow pulled the tendon out of the little trough it sits in, or something like that, that was what the doctor told me.

I sure wouldn't want to be anywhere near if you had to dryfire it, and sure as heck wouldn't want to be you,it you did dryfire a 180lb bow

razor blades as fletching just sounds crazy and would scare the hell out of me, sharp things and strings do not mix well

i can not imagine pulling that much weight!!! Kevin you are a monster (in a good way). so if the arrow was 14" how long of draw was the bow, and what was the brace height? just seems like a really short arrow

Brace height was 4" and the DL was set at 31". Yea figure that out, how do you shoot a 14" arrow off a 31" DL with a 4" brace?????

The arrows weighed 142-160 grains total.
