This is the best start of a season I've ever had. The season started on Monday Oct 15th here, and in two sits I have two deer down.

Opening morning I shot a doe to fill the freezer. Double lunged her quartering away at about 20yds. Blood was sprayed everywhere from point of impact all the way to the deer about 30yds away. Could have shot another doe that morning but she was smaller and I don't want to kill off too many live decoys. My doe dressed in at 112 lbs. Checked her in later that morning and hurried up to butcher her up b/c it was so hot out.

Next afternoon on Tuesday I went to a different spot that looked really promising, but never hunted it before. Kinda windy but it was good wind for this stand. at 6PM I had a buck coming in from downwind. Watched him come in working straight toward my stand, made a scrape and slowly walked underneath my tree. I caught a better look at his funky rack while he came in and decided he was definitely a shooter. A mature buck, I counted at least 9 points, he was wide enough and tall. Along the way, he passed my camera (which took 3 pics of him). When he walked underneath and past me, I came to full draw a bit early. Had to hold for about a minute and he finally turned quartering away at 15yds. Shot him a little high and back because he took a step as I was executing my shot, but the arrow exited nicely and took out the liver and one lung. Even though I heard some crashing and I thought he was dead, I backed out b/c I saw darker red blood on the arrow and it was hard to follow the sparse blood trail at night. Got him early the next morning! He piled up about 70-80yds away. He dressed out at 172lbs and has 10 score-able points. 6 on one side with his G2 kicker, and 4 on his funky side including a split brow tine. Sweet!

I couldn't make up a better way to start the season! I've been on stand a total of 7 hrs and I have two deer down! This never happens in MA! I usually see a lot of nothing or one deer here, one deer there. I've actually gone a whole season not seeing a deer during shooting light, so this is unreal for me. Best of luck to everyone else. I hope you all enjoy your season as much as I always do - no matter what!
