Search the classifieds there are great deals on used bows. Bows don't hold their value. You should be able to get a great rig to start on for $300. If he can get to 400-450 will get a fantastic bow to start with.
Need Some Advice on an Inexpensive Bow
Hi guys! I'm brand new to these forums but with how much I'm infatuated with archery I figured it was about time to find a forum. Forgive me if this is a hackneyed question, but any advice would help. I've been shooting for a little over a year now, 3-D tourneys and hunting. I've learned the ins and outs of my bow, upgraded the accessories, and adjusted it perfectly for me. Every now and then I'll bring a friend out to shoot with me and needless to say, one of them is hooked, now. He's a pretty good shot, especially considering he can't even anchor properly with my shorter reach. We've done some shopping and test drives and he really likes a few hoyt bows but doesn't really have the money at the moment to buy a high end compound. We considered getting the accessories he wants and slapping them on a genesis pro until he had the money for a long term bow, but from what I'm seeing they only max 25 lbs and he already comfortably shoots 50lbs with approximately a 27" draw.
So do any of you have recommendations for a cheap compound that could get him by for a few months to a year tops until he can justify a nice hoyt? I'm thinking $300.00 tops. Or any thrifty ways to get a nicer, used compound? He's ok with shooting mine for awhile but I'm concerned he's going to train himself improper stance just to compensate for my shorter reach. It's possible in searching for something that doesn't exist. If that's the case, just let me know or if you have any suggestions for good starter bows, any advice is welcome.

Oh look for bows with rotating draw mod. Much better starting out than draw specific cams or even having to buy mods. A PSE vendetta would do great and can be found in the 300-350 price range

That's an 06 it has E cams.
I liked 07/08.
Only problem with the ally is it had limb problems. They had an identity crisis. They were solid limbs but wanted to be split limbs and the always ended up that way.
Bowtech has no more of those limbs and they are not making anymore so limbs are hard to come by. You would have to get them custom made when they crack.

Take a look at the Hoyt Charger. Great bow for the money.
Bought an older Hoyt at a pawn shop and then had to get it re-stringed. I did check up on the bow on-line via search engines before deciding to buy. Was well worth the investment, using it for my bow-fishing rig now, doing great!

I owned 4 different Alleys and never had a limb split, but have heard of it but never seen it in person. but then again I think every bow company has limbs that crack my hoyt Matrix did and a High country did.
Look at some martin bows online. EBay is great. I got 2 of them from there.

I'll 2nd the infinite edge or bowtech fuel. As fast as many bows, a little cheaper and you don't need a press to tune them. I'll also add that it's powerful enough to send a 400 grain arrow through a well used target and 3/8" solid wood where I couldn't find the arrow....
