I went to the shop tonight and shot for about 3.5 hours. I ended up shooting 282 23x on the 5spot, which I was more than happy with considering I was jerking the trigger badly at the beginning of the session and my DL is too long. I need to come up with a 28.5" mod, I think it can REALLY improve scores. I have to say, I might be addicted to spots.

that is exactly my first 5 spot score....Congrats.

really?

That's pretty cool. I think with me squeezing the trigger good now and when I get the DL fixed I could really throw up some good scores. I was happy not to get a 0 at all throughout the round. I really didn't like 3D as well. My shop owner was really impressed with me, especially for only having the bow 2 days and the DL being too long on me. I'm going back tommorow and we are going to bowmap it. Which basically sights in a bow for you, out to however many yards you want. All you have to do is chrono it, set the 20yd pin, take a few measurments and it spits out the sight gaps and everything. Pretty neat machine, got to see him do it on a Switchback XT.

On another note. I am really building a good relationship with the owner. He's starting to confide in me a little, and I'm not even working there yet! He was setting up a bow and he called me over and asked me what I thought about it. It shows he trusts my judgement a little. What I thought was cool, is I was sitting there talking to his wife that came in with his 5 week old baby and she said that she has heard alot about me and that Chris (shop owner) was really impressed in me. Kinda made me smile a little.

On another note, I would LOVE to get some 50-60 limbs for this bow. I dont have trouble pulling the 63lbs by anymeans but after some shooting I get a little fatigued, but then again I shot for 3.5 hours tonight :)

Great shooting Cougar. I would like to suggest something to you that will stop the trigger jerking.

Get a friend to help you in this the next time you go shooting.

Go to full draw and set your anchor point just as you do when you shoot. Keep your finger off the trigger and have a friend pull the trigger for you.

That is the way it should feel when you shoot, it should be a surprise to you when the release fires.

Now try this, go to full draw, anchor and release your grip on the trigger and place your finger on the trigger, apply about 1-2 pounds of pressure to the trigger. Now using your back muscles begin to pull back as you would with a back tension release. Remember dont grip your release let the wrist strap do the work. The release will fire as you pull back with your back, no more jerking! Jerking the trigger is the first stage of target panic and you dont want to go their. This is the only way i shoot a release I never jerk a trigger its always a smooth backward pull that fires the bow and even though you dont know when the bow will fire its consistant. Good luck

Well I went tonight and put another 200arrows thru the Ross. Today I was like a totally different person. I went and got a module before I went to the shop, 28.5" fits me PERFECT. I wasn't jerking the trigger, I got back to using backtension. I shot for about 2 hours, went and got lunch, then came back to the shop. I decided I would shoot another 5 spot round. The shop wasn't very busy so my owner shot with me. I shot pretty well this time. I shot a 288 31x, I'm VERY pleased with this. If I could get some 50-60ers which I think I might be, I could really throw some scores down. A good stabilizer would help too, I'm shooting a 3inch doinker which does help alot more than the S-Coil. After that I shot a bunch of 3D with some guys that came into the shop, and I won by 6  . As soon as I get MYSELF back in tune like I was back in February, I'll be in good shape.

PS: I also played around with a thumb release and I couldnt be consistant with it. It would take alot of getting used to, but at the moment I'm REALLY liking my Little Goose Deluxe, I can shoot pretty good backtension with it. I would recommend the Little Goose Deluxe to everyone. The deluxe comes with the knarled trigger and it is DEFINATELY the way to go :(

Good shooting, good luck, welcome to spots...if I'm allowed to do that as I've only shot one myself. You're whole story so far sounds wonderful...your excitement, the support and help your getting, and perhaps the relationships your building with other archers. Yeah, I know, it is addicting isn't it :)
