3 years till I request retirement from the Army..... :)
Gonna settle down in MO, somewhere between Ft. LeonardWood and Marshfield.

Wife wants to build, I being the impatient person I am, would rather walk into a newer already built home on some acreage.

Anybody had there home built?
What are some tips of researching builders and house plans?

where to start... well there is an advantage to building your own. NAHB is probably a good place to start. Head over to nahb.org There is a consumer area that will educate you.

Here is a list of Missouri NAHB Organization
http://www.nahb.org/local_association_s ... x?state=MO

NAHB for the most part has reputable contractors, i say this because nothing is 100%.

as you know price is never an indicator or quality or value.

I can answer questions or at least point you in an area.

IMHO stay away from Waynesville area. Ft Lost in the Woods right now is exploding in growth and the contractors migrating into the area will make it real hard to find a reputable builder. They are there, just gonna be hard to find. Houses are being thrown together as fast as they can over there.

FWIW ive built (multifamily units) and am building a house for my wife now. So you can say im in the building trade mostly interior work and remodels.

Cool thanks for the info.
I got a buddy stationed at FLW that got a really nice house built 2 years ago. The builder was new to the area and built 5 of his first homes for a "lower" price and my partner took the advantage of the offer and with his prior contractor profession he assisted in the build...
I doubt I will live in Waynesville, actually looking at Lebanon area, it's right in between the Army base and my family..

lebanon is a nice area for a location. Around fordland is another nice area, probably too far south for you.

yea your buddy was able to score, Its always good to have a friend that knows the trades able to "consult" and advise.

I wish i knew more about the archery business possiblities in the lebanon area. Sorry.

If you move there, head over to the yamaha boat factory and pick me up one, il lbe there the next day to take it off your hands LOL

I dont know about the schools in lebanon, but camdenton is another idea worth tossing around.

yea Shooter, I will have 20 in 2010...hopefully Uncle Sam will let me go then, still not sure its a 50/50 game as far as turning uncle Sugar turnign down retirements.....I got a feeling they are gonna give my E8 to try to hook me into staying in an extra 3 years.

yea, been to Fordland, my Aunt lives in Ava and I drive thru there every now and then.
I like Lebanon and there isn't any archery shops there so It might do me well to set one up with a 3D range :)
