Ok,,,who is going to try ground blinds this fall? I'm tempted as I get older. Been climbing forever,,but ground blinds look much safer and maybe even 'better'??? I tried some hunting buddy's blinds this past fall. The one thing I did not like was they were HOT! Here in Georgia the archery deer season starts in mid
September so the skeeters are still out,,,another 'plus' for blinds.
But I DO like that aerial veiw that 30' up a tree offers! [I USE safety harnesses every time I go up].
Tell me your thinking.

I still prefer a climber where I can but also own a blind. I keep the blind in the truck in case I move to a new area and there is no good trees for a climber.

Ground is safer but you limit your vision by a large percent. Tress can and are dangerous, always were that safety harness and inspect your stand for any damage PRIOR to getting up there.

On scent control, guess it is a toss up as to which is better and probably depends on the type of blind used. 30' up a tree really lessens any scent in the surrounding area. Good scent habbits needs to be followed either way.

For now, I will climb when I can and use my thermocell for bug control.

woods ENJOYMENT....

once again,,I gotta say that one thing I love is that AERIAL VIEW~! All those little 'things going on' that we get to watch and listen too down there on the ground.
I'm ready for deer season~!

ground blinds work great on turkey but for deer you goota have the right situation for them to work.

you have got to hide them. camo with brush just like you would when hunting on the ground without the one. i tried for three years hunting with pistols and bows in a clearcut in northeast georgia and never killed a deer.. sure i could have taken some real young does but no bucks. everytime a buck would come even close to giving me a shot they would spot the blind and they would change counties.

I wanted to hunt out of blind for bad weather. you know when it is windy or rainy. the concept of the whole idea seams like it would work great but i did not have any luck at all.

I have really started liking my ladder stands, Climbers are great if you can find the right tree where you want it. I have found more trees that I can use my ladder in than not. True it does not get you real high up but enough if you plan stand placement right.

What I'm using

I have always liked to be mobile and climbers make you mobile when the animals don't always do what you think they will. I own a Summit Broadhead packer and this year I bought a Double Bull Matrix 360 and I'm looking forward to using it for turkeys coming up and I will give it ago come deer season. Seems the prostaffers for Dbl. Bull have it all fiqured out I hope that I have that sort of luck.

I will be in Iraq this deer seaon but plan on giving blind hunting a try next year.
I would say if you have property where you were not afraid of leaving a blind set up you will do well with deer by setting it up early and leaving it.
I may set one up back home in MO on the farm and try it.

This past fall I shot a doe with my son with me. What a great experience for the both of us. Our 1st deer together! We had deer 3 steps from the blind. I had it out there well in advance. Probably out there a month or more. I love being in a tree, but there is something special about being on the ground too. Also, when the wind is kicking up I can get in there and be comfortable too. Try it, but again you need to use some natural vegetation to break up the outline. Every time I went I had deer to shoot. This may keep you from burning out your favorite spot. Also, there may not always be a tree where you would like to hunt as in the case where I had mine set up. This gives you that chance to be in the right place at the right time!

I just bought a Ameristep brickhouse. I can't wait to try it out. The place I hunt has a large cut over on it and in the afternoons the deer come out in the edge of it. By the time they get to me it is too dark to shoot. So I will set this blind up in the old dry creek that runs through it and play a little Ross string music this fall.

Have Both

Use a summit climber. I am getting better with tree location. Being vertical has so many other advantages that I need. Last season I used and recommend the SEAT OF THE PANTS safety system that came with the climber. I also bought the stirrups that made it easier and safer to climb and descend.
I am going to invest in a safety vest, one with a deer drag. I am going to pay extra for the top of the line vest. I look at it as insurance, so I can keep this obsession going on.

Why don't you take your blind with you? That way when ol' bin laden sneaks by you can pop a cap in his @$$ :)
I wish it was that easy, I would of nailed em last tour like I did a Camel with my Jennings. :)
