Just trying to get an idea in the interest level. I was thinking maybe like the one that HuntingNet and other places put on. Get all the people who sign up and divide them into equal teams. Everyone would have their own team thread that you can talk to your teammates. The team with the highest cumulative P&Y points wins. It's usually alot of fun! This is just purely to see if you guys would be interested, nothing is final. Also I forgot to add that it doesn't just have to be whitetails, blacktails and mulies are welcome too! I'm pretty sure there is a formula out there to compare to a whitetail score, I'll have to dig it up.

I'm in. I have frowned on contests that have teams like the Oregon National Blacktail Hunt... B.S. hunt they used to have 'round here. Guys would just kill anything for points and leave them in the back of the truck for three days and God knows what, Really turned me off contests and the National Blacktail Foundation. But I'm in here. You'll have to have categories. 'Cause we don't have Whitetail 'round here just Blacktail and Mulies. Also Elk???
Elk are probably out of the contest.

But mulies and blacktails you have a formula to compare to whitetails. Let me try to find it, but mulies, whitetails, and blacktails are all welcome!

I think it would be fun. I havent killed many deer over 120" with a bow, but I have great place to go now and there is a few realy big bucks on this place. A nice friendly contest would be added incentive to spent more time after one of them boys.

This is my Brothers 06' rifle buck, and I saw at least 3 bucks bigger than him while bowhunting last season!

How many points are does? The new place I am hunting has a ratio of 10:1 or better. I have to do a lot of thinning before the rut.

Does, from a management standpoint, should have high points. Based on the fact that you are doing something to help the quality of deer in your area.

Maybe something like you cant enter a buck until you register a doe kill. IMO for a contest, that shows your not a braggart.

We could think up something as far as points go for does. We couldn't have an earn a buck thing for the contest because alot of people just get one tag. If anyone has any suggestions on how to score does let me know. Maybe by age?

Fawn= 10pts
1.5=20
2.5=30
3.5=40
4.5=50

and so on

I would give a Doe certian points, and use the horn measurement scale for points.
Say anything from a button buck to 10" of horn is XX amount of points, 10.5" inches of horn to 25", and so on..........

Mike try to come up with a scale if you guys would rather do it that way. I've just always seen P&Y used.

Use P&Y points for bucks and dressed wieght for does. Ex.79 lb doe = 79points 125 lb doe = 125 points. Should keep things fairly balanced especially for those that dont get a chance at big buck all the time.

Only problem with including does is the chance to "run up the score" In the area I hunt there are 8000 antlerless only permits that allow you to take 2 deer per tag thats 16000 permits! They are valid for whatever season you are hunting, bow, rifle, muzzy, late rifle. You can have as many permits as you want as long as they are available. Some people may not find that fair because I may have a better chance to rack points with does.

We will probably make it 2 deer per entrant. Bow only!

I'm in. Antlermass has a good point. Some states only allow 1 or 2 deer to be harvested while others allow 8 or more. Maybe we should find out what state has the lowest allowable harvest number and use that. Also, the teams might be split up. If one team is made up of Iowa,Kansas,Illinois,and Ohio going against a team from states with typically smaller deer it could get lopsided. Just a thought.

It will be a completely random draw.

I am working on a complete set of rules if we decide to go through with it and if you guys do, try to talk Mike into going along with it :)
